Salam. I'm in a debate and i was just wondering if you can clarify something?

There are a few sacred months in Islam such as ramadan and zulhijjah. During these months, the muslim are supposed to dedicate their time to god. For example in ramadan, the muslims are supposed to fast, and in zulhijjah, the muslims will perform their haj. What it meant by those verses are that we as muslims ought to fight within ourselves from getting influence and indulge in negatives thought that could lead us away from god. And to kill means, to wipe out that feeling in us and change it with a better one, that is to dedicate ourselves to the only god.
