Moving to Orlando from NYC and dont know how to?

My mother wants to move to Orlando from NYC. We have never moved before and we are not rich. So I need to know how do we do this Uhaul cost to much they want about 2,000 dollars. I say just throw everything out and start new. But she is insisting on bring the couch and other stuff. What is the best way to and cost effective way to do this move. Any advice from past movers who moved over 1000 miles away.
