Why do a majority of street crimes seem to involve young black males?

Most street crimes reported in the UK media (s, muggings, shootings, knife attacks, etc.) seem to involve young black males. Is this twisted media reporting, a manifestation of a racist police force or is there a social reason in the black community? As an example, how many street crimes do you hear of where the perpetrator was of oriental origin?
