Why isn't this situation really awkward?

So me and my friend (we're both girls) recently got into this friends with benefits situation kinda really suddenly. No one knows, and we live next door to each other in our dorm. We're both naturally pretty awkward people, and since the transition from being just friends was super quick you'd think it would be REALLY REALLY awkward in public and in private. It didn't start consciously, we kinda just realized what was happening suddenly in the middle of the night. Its really chill and relaxing, but that just doesn't seem to make sense. Why isn't this awkward?
